Head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, flatly denied that he had made remarks on the Christian ministers who partook in the cabinet session or that he had questioned their Christianity.
“Bassil denies the statements that Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati falsely attributed to him about the Christian Ministers and the cross sign,” Bassil’s press office said in a communiqué.
“MP Bassil can never say that ‘everybody who makes the cross sign is not necessarily a Christian,'” the statement read.
“Bassil deplores this low attempt to fuel sectarian tensions,” it added.
