SYRIA: ARMY UNITS ENTER DARAA AL-BALAD AREA IN FRAMEWORK OF SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT

Units of the Syrian Arab Army on Wednesday entered Daraa al-Balad area, raised the national flag over the settlement center in al-Arba’in neighborhood in the framework of the settlement agreement which was proposed by the State and provides for settling the status of the gunmen, handing their weapons to the army and exit of the terrorists.

SANA reporter in Daraa said that army units entered Daraa al-Balad neighborhood, started to set up a number of posts paving the way for the start of combing and inspection operations in the area to detect weapons left behind by terrorists, including arms, ammunition, explosive devices.

The army units will also work to search on tunnels, fortifications and hideouts that terrorists had used to launch their attacks against the civilians and the army points on the line of engagement, towards the safe neighborhoods in preparation to the entry of the service institutions’ workshops to rehabilitate the infrastructure and provide services to the neighborhood.

On Monday, operations of handing over weapons and settling the status of dozens of gunmen from Daraa al-Balad resumed within the framework of implementing the settlement agreement proposed by the State, after the terrorist groups in Daraa al-Balad neighborhood had disrupted this agreement several times.

The agreement provides for expelling the terrorists from the neighborhood, settling the status of the gunmen and the wanted persons, handing over weapons, setting up the army’s posts and restoring services and the State’s institutions to serve the people of the neighborhood.

The Syrian State has been keen for several weeks to consolidate security and stability in Daraa province through giving priority to peaceful solutions in order to preserve civilians and infrastructure and prevent endangering their lives.
