MUSCAT: The total number of expatriate workforce in the Sultanate was 1,575,298 at the end of January, with an increase of 0.3 per cent, compared to December last year which recorded 1,570,132.
Recent statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) indicated that the number of male expatriate workers stood at 1,392 million workers, and the females at 182,783.
The statistics showed that the largest number of expatriate workforce are in the private sector, with 1,273,327 at the end of January, including 29,886 females and 1,243,441 males, with an increase of 0.2 per cent compared to that in December, 2014, followed by domestic workers sector with 242,019, including 132,164 females, compared to 109,855 females in December, 2014, an increase of 0.8 per cent, followed by the government sector with 59,952, including 39,219 male workers and 20,733 female workers, up 0.3 per cent compared to that in December last year.
The statistics indicated that majority of expatriate workforce are of Indian nationality (605,543), a rise of 0.3 per cent. The statistics showed that the largest number of expatriate workforce were in the Governorate of Muscat (701,272) up 0.4 per cent compared to December, followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah (203,904), up 0.2 per cent, followed by the Governorate of Dhofar (175,970), down 0.1 per cent compared to December, 2014.
