Rome, Deputy President of Presidency Council Abdullah Al Lafi discussed with Italian Minister of Justice Marta Cartabia an extradition Agreement between Libya and Italy which was amended recently by ad hoc committee, in anticipation for signing by Ministers of Justice.
This came at a meeting they held here on Tuesday, attended by the Libyan Ambassador Omar Al Tarhouni, and Mohamed Siala, a Counsel to the Presidency Council, and Defense and Security Adviser Ahmad Muhareb.
The two sides discussed law suits filed by Italian companies against the Libyan State, seizing rules, whereby Al Lafi requested that they be treated politically through agreements signed by the two countries.
The Deputy stressed importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries, praising Italy’s role in promoting stability and security in Libya.
The Italian Justice Minister spoke about Italy’s experience in transition justice, namely the transition from Fascism to the republican system.
The agreement provided for extraditing of prisoners, which could help Libya transfer Libyans convicted in Italy to serve rest of their terms in Libya.
