Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, on Monday discussed Lebanese-Indonesian parliamentary relations during a meeting with Head of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (Indonesian Shura Council), Zulkifli Hasan, in presence of Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon, Hajriyanto Y. Thohari.
Berri thanked Indonesia for its positions in support of Lebanon, and the participation of its soldiers in UNIFIL forces operating in the south of Lebanon. Berri also received an official invitation from the head of the Indonesian Shura Council to visit Indonesia.
United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jan Kubis, also had a meeting with the House Speaker, during which the latter confirmed to the UN envoy the role of the United Nations and its witnessing of all the Israeli violations of international resolution 1701 by land, sea, and air.
Later during the day, Berri also presided over a general meeting by the “Development and Liberation” bloc.
The bloc broached the general state budget in light of the discussions that had been witnessed by the Finance and Budget Committee, expressing support for the budget as approved by the Committee.
The bloc also discussed its electoral proposal, which suggests Lebanon’s adoption of one electoral district on proportional basis.
