Caretaker Minister of National Defense, Elias Bou Saab, on Thursday welcomed UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Jan Kubis, who praised the Lebanese army’s outstanding performance at this critical juncture, and the fact that it was able to open roads without violence.
In turn, the Defense Minister pointed out that the army had opened roads “just in time” to avoid an internal explosion among the citizens and demonstrators themselves.
“The military is making decisions that fall in country’s best public interest,” he added.
During the meeting, the pair discussed the Security Council’s report on UNIFIL’s work in Lebanon and on Lebanon’s commitment to international resolutions.
Furthermore, the crucial economic and financial situation in Lebanon featured high on discussions between the pair, who saw eye-to-eye on the need to swiftly take all the necessary measures to overcome this stage.
