Minister of Agriculture, Akram Chehayeb, on Tuesday stepped up calls on concerned sides to limit the entry of smuggled agricultural products into Lebanon.
“We have closed our borders,” the Minister said, deeming this a golden decision that ought to preserve local agricultural products.
Chehayeb’s words came in a press conference titled, “Protecting farmers and agricultural products”.
“All the food safety projects that are being implemented by a number of ministries become inactive once products are smuggled,” the Minister warned, reminding that the Lebanese agricultural products cover local needs and provide a surplus for exportation.
He finally reminded that a free trade did not denote a “free blow to our national economy”.
