The Head of the EU Delegation in Lebanon H.E. Mrs. Christina Lassen, visited three projects in Akkar- Lebanon, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Economic and Social Fund for Development (ESFD).
The three projects situated in Akkar, aim at improving the water supply to help the local population and alleviate the heavy burden on the water distribution network caused by the heavy influx of Syrian refugees.
Mrs.Lassen tour started in Mhamara in Akkar, where she visited a project consisting of drilling and equipping a new water well, extending of the distribution network and construction of a new ground reservoir 500 m� and a water tower of 100 m�, amounted to four hundred thousand euros. It goes without saying that this project has contributed drastically in ending the water shortage in this area
She then went toQoniah, where ESFD implemented the project of drilling and equipping a water well. This vital project that amounted to around two hundred thousand euros, has definitely improved the water supply facilities in the area where local people have expressed their satisfaction.
The ambassador’s next stop was in Kfartoun in Akkar as well, where the ESFD recently finalized the project of drilling and equipping a new water well between Kfartoun and Akroum. There,she met with municipal officials and residents of the beneficiaries of the project and talked to them about the positive impact on life and daily needs of the community, especially in improving the water supply for almost the whole population of Akroum and Kfartoun villages and their Syrian guests who have fled areas in their troubled country.
