Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Jean Fahed, and his French counterpart, Judge Bertrand Louvel, met on Wednesday with House Speaker, Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister, Tammam Salam, over judicial cooperation between the two courts in Lebanon and France, in the context of the twinning agreement signed in 2001 and renewed in 2013, according to the Secretariat of High Judicial Council.
Louvel congratulated Berri and Salam on the measures taken for strengthening the independence of the judicial authority. He also tackled with interlocutors the global standards of independence and judicial ethics.
For his part, Berri stressed the importance of establishing an independent and effective judicial authority, saying that it is a prerequisite condition for establishing the rule of law and institutions.
Salam also underscored the important role of the judicial authority and the security forces in the current situation.
