FM, Cypriot counterpart stress depth of bilateral relations


Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri asserted Thursday 26/5/2022 the depth of Egyptian-Cypriot relations in various domains.


During a joint press conference with visiting Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, Shoukri lauded the Cypriot minister’s pivotal role, during the period between 2014-2015, in laying down a roadmap to boost Egyptian-Cypriot relations, in line with directives of the Egyptian and the Cypriot presidents.


The Egyptian foreign minister described Egypt-Cyprus relationship as “close”, friendly and fully transparent, as both sides work within a framework of joint principles.


Shoukri referred to strong ties binding the Egyptian and Cypriot people.


He voiced the two countries’ continued keenness on promoting Middle East stability, cooperation and joint action, with a view to facing up to challenges besetting the Mediterranean area.


During the press conference, Foreign Minister Shoukri highlighted the importance of a three-way cooperation mechanism grouping Egypt, Cyprus and Greece.



The Foreign minister said thanks to the Cypriot side’s full understanding of the situation in Egypt and the entire region, Nicosia has always been a strong supporter of Egyptian-European ties.


Cyprus is always considered as a good advocate and backer of Egyptian national security, Shoukri said.


The Egyptian top diplomat said he held bilateral talks with his Cypriot counterpart that were followed by an expanded session of talks that took up ways of fostering bilateral cooperation in the trade, energy and investment domains, along with an broad array of regional and international issues of mutual interest.


The two sides’ talks also touched upon ongoing preparations for upcoming meetings of the joint higher committee, he added.
