The French embassy distributed a statement by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the approval of the ministerial statement put together by the new Lebanese government. The statement read:
“The Lebanese parliament has approved the ministerial statement of the new Lebanese government. It is now the responsibility of this government to move quickly towards meeting the economic, social and political aspirations that the Lebanese have been expressing for several months now.
France, just like all the partners of the International Support Group for Lebanon who met last December in Paris, are expecting from the Lebanese authorities far-reaching and ambitious reforms, especially in relation to economic transparency, economic and financial sustainability, anti-corruption and judicial independence. These reforms should be carried out in a spirit of responsibility and for the benefit of all Lebanese.
France remains on the side of the Lebanese, as it has always been, and it renews its adherence to the sovereignty, stability and security of Lebanon, which must be separated from regional tensions and crises.”
