Head of the Lebanese Forces party, Samir Geagea, affirmed that “the real reason behind the LF’s decision not to name Saad Hariri as PM stems from a decision not to engage in any joint initiative with the ruling trio: Hezbollah, the Free Patriotic Movement, and the Amal Movement.”
Geagea said: “It is known that any government that will be formed today must have ‘reforms’, and only reforms, as essence to its existence. What reforms should we expect with the participation of the aforementioned parties in the government? The government of PM Hassan Diab was theirs; it lived for 6 months, so where were the required reforms?”
“We will not name Prime Minister Hariri on grounds related to the steps we are about to take, but if Hariri accepts the risk and the bet, which he is free to do, we do not seek to swallow the poison or commit suicide once again for the sake of an issue which will, almost certainly, lead nowhere,” he added.
Geagea’s statement came in a video statement posted on his personal Facebook page, in which he refuted all theories regarding the LF’s decision not to name Hariri as Premier-designate.
