Telecommunications Minister, Boutros Harb, confirmed on Thursday that claims about the reason behind the abstention of OGERO and Ministry of Telecommunications General Director, Abdel Moneim Youssef, from yesterday’s trial were inaccurate.
“The legal course of summoning Youssef remains incomplete. According to norms, the concerned Minister should be notified and asked for permission to impeach one of his employees. This request should also enclose a copy detailing the ongoing investigations,” the Minister explained, adding that the request summoning Youssef to a hearing session was sent without a copy of the investigation report.
“I will not cover anyone who gets summoned according to legal norms. It’s only up to the judiciary to decide whether Youssef is guilty or not,” the minister added.
According to Harb, Youssef had requested a leave to spend the holiday abroad with his family but soon suffered a health setback and requested another 10-day medical leave from the Minister.
Yesterday, Investigative Judge of Mount Lebanon, Rami Abdullah, adjourned the hearing session which was scheduled with Youssef for Wednesday May 11, when the latter failed to show up to court.
