HEALTH MINISTER DISCUSSES LEBANON’S ACCESS TO GAVI WITH UNICEF REPRESENTATIVE

Caretaker Minister of Public Health, Dr. Hamad Hassan, on Friday met with Representative of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Lebanon, Yukie Mokuo, with whom he discussed Lebanon’s request to join the Global Vaccine Alliance (GAVI), which allows access to vaccines, especially the Covid-19 vaccine — when it is adopted — at a price lower than the market price by nearly forty percent, as this should help the Lebanese state make great savings in light of the current dire economic conditions.

In a statement she made, Mokuo pointed out that talks with the Health Minister mainly focused on coordination over the Covid-19 vaccine once it becomes available.

“Work is also focused, at this stage, on activating the national program for immunization, which shall include Lebanese children and those residing on Lebanese territories,” Mokuo added.
