Under the patronage of Prime Minister Tammam Salam, represented by Minister Ghazi Zeaiter, the center of research and strategic studies of the Lebanese Army organized the 6th regional conference titled “The Middle East in the shadow of the new world system and the impact of global conflict on the region. ”
The conference was held at the Monroe Hotel in Beirut in the presence of ranking dignitaries and officials.
In his address, Minister Zeaiter said “the Lebanese army, despite all the defense responsibilities, has never failed to fulfill its developmental obligations and cultural activities.”
Taking the floor, Commander of the Army, General Jean Qahwaji stressed that “it is unfortunate, after almost five years, that the Arab world continues to suffer destruction, devastation and displacement, in the shadow of a vision which remains ambiguous with events escalating at a very fast pace.”
“The panorama of military conflict remains ambiguous, and hopes for political solutions remain unfinished, while terrorism continues to perpetrate crimes in the region and elsewhere, despite the strong blows addressed to terrorists in the most recent months,” he said.
“It is necessary to draw up a comprehensive strategy to deal with terrorism,” he added, saying that this strategy must touch on the cultural and educative aspects, in addition to the military and security sides.
The Army Chief finally assured that the military institution had both the capacity and the will to continue the war against terrorism, and that “any terrorist act which may arise here or there, regardless of its nature and results, would never destroy the determination of the Army to protect Lebanon and to preserve its unity, sovereignty and independence.”
