SALALAH: Giving a boost to expanding logistic sector in Salalah, the founders of Salalah Ports and Airport Logistic Services SAOC entered into an agreement with the Netherlands based Maritime Transport and Business Solutions (MTBS) yesterday. The agreement signing ceremony was held under the auspices of Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs.
The agreement is aimed at offering opportunities within the region with the setting up of a closed joint stock company named Salalah Ports and Airports Logistic Services. The company is aimed at offering the state-of-the-art logistics services combining local service strength with professional services drawn from best international practices.
The partnership with MTBS is to give the newly-formed company an edge over services and customer satisfaction.
The agreement gains importance in the wake of the fact that Salalah is fast emerging as region’s hub for reworking of cargo coming here through ships from various destinations and being sent to other destinations through road, air or by sea again.
As a consultant the MTBS would offer valuable support to the newly formed logistics services company, as known for its quality services, “as the MTBS has designed its products around one objective — to ensure that its clients realise the quality profits they seek.
“MTBS understands that these quality profits can have different meanings for different clients, depending on the nature of each organization,” said a MTBS representative during the signing ceremony.
“We have done our assessment about Salalah. It does have potential, which needs to be tapped properly. We will do further studies and ensure the best possible solution to our client,” he said.
Dr Anwar Rowas, chairman of the foundation committee of the company, said: “Salalah is emerging as new business destination in the Sultanate. It requires some direction and I am sure Salalah Ports and Airport Logistic Services and MTBS would offer the best possible solution to clients and businesses operating in the region.”
As the company will represent the community of the region, the founder members believe that the company will be strongly positioned to secure the concessions from all stakeholders through a successful model of private/public partnership.
