Live COVID-19 updates: Canada’s cases surpass 1 million

OTTAWA — Canada’s COVID-19 cases have amounted to 1,001,645, reported CTV.

Canada became the 23rd country in the world to surpass 1 million confirmed cases, according to a worldwide tally of global infections by Johns Hopkins University.

ANKARA — Turkey on Saturday reported the highest daily count of 44,756 COVID-19 cases, according to its health ministry.

Among the new cases, 1,483 are symptomatic patients, and the total infections in the country reached 3,445,052.

BEIRUT — Lebanon registered on Saturday 2,188 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 477,113.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the virus went up by 33 to 6,379.

ALGIERS — Algeria on Saturday reported 95 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the North African country to 117,524.

The death toll from the virus rose to 3,102 after three new fatalities were added, said the Algerian Ministry of Health in a statement.

JERUSALEM — Israel’s Ministry of Health reported 363 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, raising the total confirmed cases in the country to 834,070.

The death toll from the virus rose by 16 to 6,236, while the number of patients in serious condition decreased from 368 to 351, out of the 516 hospitalized patients.

RABAT — Morocco announced on Saturday 575 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the North African country to 497,832.

The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 484,793 after 569 more were added.

PARIS — France reported 213 new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, bringing the toll to 96,493 since the start of the pandemic, according to data from the health ministry.

Hospital admissions for COVID-19 went up by 157 to reach 28,886. A total of 5,273 people with COVID-19 were in intensive care units (ICU), 19 more than the Friday figure.

HAVANA — Cuba registered two more deaths and 1,029 cases of COVID-19, the fifth consecutive day with over 1,000 daily infections, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Saturday.

The director of hygiene and epidemiology at the ministry, Francisco Duran, said that with these figures, the accumulated number of cases rose to 78,382 and the death toll was 431.
