The Media and Communications Committee on Monday convened in session under the chairmanship of Dr. Hussein Hajj Hassan, who said in the wake of the meeting that the Communications Committee had held its periodic meeting today to discuss with Caretaker Minister of Telecoms, Talal Hawwat, the handover of both of Lebanon’s mobile networks to the Lebanese state.
The Lebanese government has taken a decision to take over the management of the two cellular companies, namely “Alpha” from Orascom and “Touch” from Zain.
A month ago, a new board of directors was formed, and a contract was concluded between the Lebanese state and Orascom. On this basis, the Lebanese state has been running this company for almost a month under the name of “MIC 1″.
As for “Touch” company, which is currently managed by Zain, it will be managed by the Lebanese state under the name of “MIC 2” after the handover that’s scheduled for 10/30/2020.
“The next government is the one that will decide on the management process of the sector, but we must benefit from the experience of past years and the mistakes that were made in order to prevent corruption and waste,” Hajj Hassan said.
