Baghdad – The Ministry of Agriculture denied the agreement with the Lebanese on importing locally available agricultural crops.
Ministry spokesman Hamid Al-Nayef said in a press statement: “The ministry has an agricultural calendar that prevents the import of crops available locally, in support of the local product and to encourage farmers to increase agricultural production to reach complete self-sufficiency, stressing the availability of more than 28 agricultural and animal products from the local product.”
He added that “the visit of the Minister of Agriculture within the ministerial delegation to Lebanon was to discuss the mechanisms of joint cooperation between the two countries in the field of exchanging agricultural experiences and agricultural machinery and machines that Iraq needs, as well as modern technologies.”
It is mentioned that a high-level Iraqi ministerial delegation, which included the ministers of oil, trade and agriculture, visited Beirut recently and held talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab.
