MUSCAT: Under the patronage of Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health, the Ministry of Health yesterday launched the Al Shifa system National Electronic Health Record (NEHR) at the ministry’s headquarters.
The event was held in the presence of under-secretaries, ministry’s adviser for health affairs and senior officials.
Abdullah al Raqadi, Director-General of Information Technology, Ministry of Health, in his speech said the computing system of MoH was operational since 1987, where the first registration system was applied at the Royal Hospital called Al Shoroq.
Then it was developed to launch a new comprehensive version for the primary healthcare in 1997 and called Al Hams.
Later on, it was changed to Al Shifa with multiple versions for different healthcare systems.
About Al Shifa system, the director-general clarified that the system linked all patient’s
files in all different health institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Health with the unified civil number.
“The patient can access to his/her medical history, health data and clinical information at anytime from anywhere,” Al Raqadi added.
