MUSCAT: Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has confirmed it is dealing with a well control incident at Rig 83 at Sakhiya-31, west of Harweel. “Specialist personnel and equipment have been sent to the site to help resolve the situation. There have been no injuries, no hydrocarbon leaks into the environment and no damage to the asset,” the majority Omani government owned company said in a press statement.
In preparation for the next stage of the operation, and in line with the company’s strict HSE policies and processes, all necessary precautionary measures are being taken, including the evacuation of people and livestock from the surrounding area, it stated. PDO is working closely with the Royal Oman Police and local authorities to co-ordinate the response which will affect some communities in the vicinity.
All emergency response teams equipment and materials are mobilised on site, and production operations continue unaffected.
PDO Managing Director Raoul Restucci stated: “The situation is under control and we are taking precautionary measures to ensure the wellbeing and safety of our employees and nearby communities, which remain our priority.”
PDO will issue further updates as the situation develops, it added.
