MUSCAT: Muscat-bound passengers from Kochi, booked on Oman Air flight, were stranded for several hours at the airport on Thursday. Flight No WY 0226, due to take off at 7.15 am, was rescheduled several times and finally to 4.15 pm (local time).

Passengers had a harrowing time as many of them arrived at the airport at dawn as the boarding time was 6.15 am.

Khalid Al Hashmi, one of the stranded passengers from Oman, told the Observer: “We have been at the airport since dawn. Just 10 minutes before the due arrival of the flight, we were told that the flight had been re-scheduled from 7:15 am to 12:15 pm. Then again it was pushed to 2:30 pm and finally to 4:15 pm Kochi time”.

“It was a sorry scene to see elderly people with healthy issues stranded at the airport. Several Omani nationals along with my family of three suffered the ordeal,” said Khalid.

Khalid said that officials, however, offered the stranded passengers accommodation and meals. Responding to a tweet why the flight is delayed, the Oman Air replied that “we are sorry to read that, it’s our constant endeavour to be on time, it must have been unavoidable.”

The passengers at Kochi were stranded as their pairing plane — Oman Air’s Muscat-Kochi flight was delayed for more than 7 hours at Muscat early morning on Thursday. Many flights were also delayed on Thursday morning at Muscat International Airport.

“Passengers were disembarked from the aircraft,” another source claimed. The reason behind the delay is not yet clear. Flights that were delayed include the Oman Air flights to Hyderabad, Mumbai, Colombo, Kathmandu, Chittagong, Kuwait and London, according to Oman Airport Management Company. The flight was supposed to take off at 1:25 am.
