Tension has been reported in the Wadi Khaled border area between the Lebanese army and a number of people from the town of Majdal, who had blocked the road since yesterday to protest against the joint security force’s arrest of a sheep herd that townsmen say were meant for sale on the Adha Feast and not for smuggling, NNA correspondent in Akkar indicated this afternoon.
As the Army units were trying to re-open the road, the residents objected and began throwing stones at the patrol vehicles, and the situation developed into firing rubber bullets that resulted in the injury of 4 protesters, one of whom died eventually.
The wounded were all taken to hospital for treatment. A number of soldiers were also injured as a result of stone throwing. Tension currently prevails in the region.
