Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay, Luis Alberto Castiglione, and his spouse, accompanied by the Ambassador of Paraguay to Lebanon and a number of embassy staff.
Discussions touched on the conditions of the Lebanese community in Paraguay in addition to the overall situation.
“I am in Lebanon as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay on an official mission, to pass a message from the president of Paraguay, who is of Lebanese origin, touching on his desire to visit Lebanon next year, to President Michel Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Saad Hariri,” said Castiglione. “I first wanted to visit the Patriarch to receive his blessings.”
He noted that he had not spoken to Rahi about the political situation in Lebanon. “Talks with the patriarch dealt with general and religious affairs,” he said.
In response to a question, he said that “the Lebanese and the Paraguayans are very similar. The Lebanese community is present in Paraguay and has played a big role in the country’s development.”
