Retired major sentenced after wife's manslaughter (The Independent)

A retired Army major who has suffered depression for decades has been detained in hospital, possibly for life, for stabbing his wife of 40 years to death.
Leonard Webb, 69, was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court after admitting the manslaughter of his 64-year-old wife, Doreen. He had denied her murder. Mr Justice Dingemans told Webb that he would not be released from hospital while he remained a threat to the public. Webb’s mental health disorder began after he contracted malaria while serving in the Army in Oman. He made several suicide attempts during relapses throughout the rest of his life.
He was seen tearfully waving to his family before being taken away to Fromeside psychiatric hospital in Bristol.
