Saadeh: Shortening president’s period breaches Christians’ major position

Kataeb parliamentary bloc member MP Samer Saadeh stressed Tuesday that the idea of shortening the Republic president’s term breaches an essential position for the Christians in Lebanon, saying that implementing such an idea would bring figurehead to the presidency position.

“The president is the entrusted on the Lebanese constitution,” Saadeh told “Al-Sharq radio station, pointing out that Lebanon is paying high price for presidency vacuum and Hizbollah regional commitments.

The MP expressed his party’s relief to Speaker Berri’s decision not to hold legislative session, saying that the committees should set scientific standards and terms to reach an agreement on an electoral law.
