SALALAH: The Ministry of Health will officially open its new heart centre in Salalah in a ceremony to be presided over by Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar on Sunday The centre will provide much-needed health services for cardiac patients and ease pressure on the national health institutions in Muscat. Constructed at a cost of RO 24 million, the 56-bed hospital has been partially operational since July last year and has been receiving patients from the Sultan Qaboos Hospital since November 18.
Open heart and cardiac catheterisation surgeries have been regularly performed by a medical team from the Salalah heart centre, the Royal Hospital and the Sultan Qaboos Hospital. The centre occupies a space of 16,444 sq metres and includes sections for nuclear medicine, diagnostic laboratory, clinical chemistry laboratory, x-ray laboratory, pediatric clinic, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) section and intensive care unit.
