MUSCAT: The Tender Committee of the Special Economic Zone Authority in Duqm (SEZAD) has awarded contracts totalling RO 22.3 million for the implementation of a number of projects, including landfills for hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, sanitary drainage system, and the levelling of 180 hectares earmarked for heavy industries.
The contracts were announced at the second meeting of the Tender Committee chaired by Ahmed bin Hassan al Dheeb, who is also Member of the SEZAD Board.
The landfill project includes the design and construction of integrated hazardous and non-hazardous wastes storage and treatment facilities. The project comes within the efforts made by SEZAD to reduce the negative effects on the environment.
The project is also in line with the efforts made by the Sultanate to limit the negative health and environmental effects caused by the traditional landfills. It also aims at providing environment-friendly landfills that can handle different types of wastes safety and meet the constant growth in volumes of waste resulting from the construction activities and population growth. The project is expected to efficiently handle the wastes that will be generated from the industries hosted at SEZAD.
The committee also awarded a project to set up Danjrat channels located at the north areas in Duqm master plan. The construction of the 11 km long channel aims at discharging the superficial rain water at the sea.
The channel will be designed in a way to ensure having the required slope that will help the channel discharge the superficial rain water in the sea very efficiently and smoothly.
The project is part of a series of projects that include protection dams, main and sub discharge channels with varying capacities. The aim of these channels is to collect rain water and discharging them safely through suitable streams for the expected volumes of rain.
The project will provide protection for the front-line infrastructure at Duqm Port and at the heavy industries complex. It will also ensure safe disposal of rain water without causing any damage to the companies operating in the zone.
SEZAD Tender Committee also awarded the sixth package of the levelling and superficial water discharge for the logistic area in Duqm port. The scope of the project covers the levelling of the lands on the main road to Duqm including digging and filling as per the project plans. The contractor should ensure that all electricity, water and communication lines at the project area are not harmed by the digging and filling works.
