STRONG LEBANON SAYS PM-DESIGNATE’S STANCE SETBACK

The Strong Lebanon parliamentary bloc called in a statement, after its periodic meeting headed by MP Gebran Bassil, upon Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri “to return to the spirit of the Charter and the text of the Constitution in the process of forming the government which the Lebanese people urgently need in this most difficult stage that Lebanon is going through economically, financially and healthily.”

The bloc considered that “the positions issued by the PM-designate constitute a setback in terms of the National Charter and the balanced political partnership. Referring to the issue of number, no matter how camouflaged it is, reflects an intention to make Christians feel as though they owed parity [to someone], thus reminding them that said parity is only in form, not real. This explains the rhetoric that says the designated PM has the power to form a government, while the role of the President of the Republic is limited to issuing the formation decree or refraining from doing so.”
