Touch-screen at centre stage

MUSCAT: COMEX, the region’s leading ICT Trade Fair was officially inaugurated by Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas, in the presence of Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Information Technology Authority, as well as other government officials. The exhibition will continue until May 1. During the opening ceremony, the Interactive Open Door Solution was used to welcome the guest of honour. The solution features also enabled him to interact with it.

In the 25th edition of COMEX 2015, 145 exhibitors from over 10 countries are participating.

Participants are showing the way forward for visitors across all sectors through the use of touch-screen learning, social networking, mobile phone apps and internet-based services.

Also, the experts at the respective stalls are busy explaining to visitors about the latest technological innovations, showcasing thought leadership around emerging trends and shedding light on how digital technology is a key contributor to the modern lifestyle transformation allowing for greater savings, efficiencies and agility.

Speaking on the occasion, Al Rumhy said: “I feel that there is a notable significant progress in the implementation of the e.oman strategy and I am happy with what I saw and heard today. The government’s ambition was to make government eServices easy-to-citizen, and this what we see today in the exhibition. It represents the great achievements in the field of Information Communication Technology (ICT).”

Commenting on the important participation of government entities at e.oman pavilion, Dr Salim Sultan al Ruzaiqi, 311683CEO of ITA, said: “The opportunities to learn, adopt and implement in Oman are enormous. Not only we are exposed to the latest technology platforms and services, but we also see how these innovations leading to better governance, collaboration and connectivity that aims to improve the quality of life. We are greatly encouraged at the growing response to COMEX, not only from technology companies but also government bodies. The opportunities to learn, adopt and implement in Oman are enormous,” he added

The exhibition is divided into three sections namely: e.oman pavilion in which all government entities showcase their eServices; COMEX business section to promote the latest trends and technologies in fiber optics, cloud computing and integrated solutions; and COMEX shoppers section to display latest technologies, tools, products and eServices.

A number of key national infrastructure projects such as the National Digital Certification Center, G-Cloud project and several projects directed to develop small and medium enterprises will be exhibited at e.oman pavilion. Moreover, many specialised ICT workshops will be held at e.oman pavilion. Different sections such as the electronic media, the e-entertainment and innovations, and digital solutions will be added to e.oman pavilion this year.

A total of 34 Omani government entities are present in the pavilion to share expertise and explore new business opportunities in the field of ICT, as well as to learn through case studies of countries present. The e.oman pavilion is also hosting international government bodies from Singapore, Lithuania, Estonia and Kuwait.

311680A key component of COMEX 2015 is the short sessions under Majliscom section conducted concurrently for the general public. These are scheduled in convenient half-hour sessions and will cover a range of topics such as future of social media, G-Cloud technology, launch of new applications, next generation technologies, and others.

Industry heavyweights like Cisco, Ooredoo, Avaya, Microsoft, GBM, Omantel, MGIT and Oman Fiber Optics have supported COMEX 2015 as key sponsors. Other exhibitors include companies from Oman, Kuwait, Egypt, India, Italy, Jordan, Yemen, Estonia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Lithuania. These participants will introduce attendees to the latest research and development in technology, new products and new opportunities that will help companies to upgrade technology platforms.

COMEX has evolved into one of the most recognised ICT exhibitions in the Gulf. Attracting over 95,000 consumers and 10,000 business buyers from Oman’s private and public sectors.

This year some of the key trends include advances in physical safety and security, whiteboard design, a whole raft of hand-held, iPad-like devices, an increase in 3D technology, an ever growing selection of educational mobile phone apps and, to help offset ICT costs, cloud computing — the new buzz phrase describing services available on the net that are designed to free up educational centres from paying for costly servers and memory storage.

In a COMEX seminar, top-ranking experts shed light on the importance of interactive touch solution.

In a seminar on Tuesday, Dr Magdi Ismaiel will shed light on boosting SEM’s and startup using software technologies and Dene Mills will focus on ERP benefits. Another topic to be covered on Tuesday is 312127“Transformational Solutions for a Connected Enterprise”.

The COMEX Conference in its 6th edition will be held on April 28 and 29 with the theme “Disruptive technologies for fast tracking National Growth”. In this edition, a greater emphasis on engaging the participants through interactive round tables, workshops, panel discussions and thematically crafted agenda. The conference will be opened under the patronage of Dr Said bin Hamed bin Said al Rubaii, Secretary-General of the Education Council.
