MUSCAT: Tremors measuring 2.54 on the Richter Scale were recorded at 2.25 pm yesterday off Muscat coast, the same place from where it was reported on Saturday, said Dr Issa al Hussain, Director, Earthquake Monitoring Centre, Sultan Qaboos University, told the Observer.
An official statement issued by the centre said that the monitoring centre recorded a tremor of 2.54 magnitude at a depth of 10 km. The centre had previously recorded a range of tremors in the same fault location during the past two days which were felt but non-destructive.
The centre added that the quake is relatively a minor one and had no effect on population and buildings. The centre added in statement that the epicentre of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km in the Sea of Oman, therefore it was a small jolt which has no effect on buildings which are founded on sound engineering basis.
A minor earthquake measuring around 3.07 on the Richter Scale was recorded on Saturday. The tremors were felt near the Sea of Oman and Iran, but the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning System, said that there are no fears of tsunami near the Oman coast following the tremors.
