Tunisian Foreign Ministry, during its meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Congo, stresses the importance of advancing the political track in Libya.

Tunis, The High-level Committee of the African Union on Libya and the Tunisian Foreign Ministry reiterated the need for cooperation and coordination between neighboring countries and the African Union to restore stability to Libya.

This came during the meeting that took place between Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Othman Al-Jarandi with his Congolese counterpart Jean-Claude Gakuso, whose country chaired the African Union’s high-level committee on Libya in the capital, Tunis.

According to a statement by the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Jarandi stressed during this meeting the importance his country attaches to advancing the political track in Libya, and the support it provides to the Libyan brothers in their endeavors to restore stability in their country and devote themselves to reconstruction and advancement of their economy according to a Libyan vision and leadership.

The Tunisian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the role of the Libyan neighboring countries and regional organizations, led by the African Union, in supporting Libyan efforts to complete the political track in partnership between Libya and the international community, based on the outcomes of the Berlin Conference 1 and 2, the Conference of the Neighboring Countries in Algeria, the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Tunisia, the Conference to Support the Stability of Libya in Tripoli, and the recent Paris summit on Libya and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, expressing Tunisia’s keenness to continue consultation and coordination with the African Union at this important stage in Libya so that the Libyan people can achieve their aspirations for peace, prosperity and progress.

In turn, Gakuso, whose country currently chairs the African Union’s high-level committee on Libya, stressed the importance of his visit to Tunisia before heading to Libya at the head of a delegation from the African Union, within the framework of his keenness to consult and coordinate with Tunisia, and given the role that Tunisia plays in stimulating regional and international efforts, to complete the political track in Libya and restore security and stability to it.
