MUSCAT: Various parts of Muscat went dry as water supply was disrupted after the main water desalination plant in Ghubra had to undergo some repairs to its pipe valves yesterday. Some parts of Muscat Governorate including Muttrah, Ruwi, Hamriya and Bausher were hit for several hours from afternoon till late night when some of the buildings reported slow resumption of water supply. The Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) had by 1 pm started sending messages informing public of moderate consumption and likely disruption of water supply for 48 hours.
On the other hand, repair works began around 9 am, according to the authority’s spokesperson. “We started maintenance works at about 9 am, but our messages reached the public by afternoon which may be a technical issue,” the representative told the Observer over phone. Later, a message from the authority said that water supply was restored at Ghubra plant after the authority managed to fix the technical failure which occurred at the plant. A team of technicians managed to fix the glitch in eight hours following which the operations returned to normal condition and water supply was restored, the statement further added.
