SOHAR: As part of the professional development programme at College of Applied Sciences-Sohar, the English Language Department is conducting a one-day workshop on The Role of Learner Autonomy in Empowering Learners.
The event will be held at the College premises today from 8 am to 4 pm, under the auspices of Sayyida Sharifa bint Khalid bin Qais al Said.
There will be 120 participants including 27 presenters from the Colleges of Applied Sciences and other academic institutions in the Sultanate. The plenary speaker is Dr Saleh al Busaidi, Director, Language Centre at Sultan Qaboos University.
The workshop aims to explore the best possible strategies and teaching practices which place students at the centre of the learning process, and help them become more autonomous by unleashing their potential and creativity.
It also examines the validity of current teaching methods and approaches, as well as investigating how current state-of-the-art technologies in the field of education could motivate students to take more responsibility for their own learning to reach an optimum degree of learning autonomy.
This is the first national ELT workshop the college is hosting, and after its success, it is hoped the ELT workshop will become an annual event.
